Meet this week’s Campus Cutie, Thomas Blount, a D.C. native who has decided to temporarily take his talents to Sevilla, Spain, where he is studying abroad for the semester with the “UNC in Sevilla” program. When Thomas isn’t breaking it down on the dancefloor of a Spanish discoteca or attending Liga fútbol games, you can find him mingling with the locals.
Name: Thomas Blount
Hometown: Washington D.C.
Year: Junior
Major: Political Science, Minor: Spanish and History
Theme song to your life: “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” by Crosby, Stills & Nash. Either that, or “Shawty is a 10.”
Favorite sports team: D.C. United (soccer)
HC: Why did you choose to go to UNC?
TB: My family has deep roots in North Carolina and I wanted to go to my dad’s alma mater.
HC: What is your favorite spot in Chapel Hill?
TB: Pint Night at He’s Not. At 4 p.m. sharp, I’m there.
HC: What is your dream date?
TB: Pint Night.
HC: What is your biggest turn off?
TB: Girls who don’t like Pint Night. Or when girls put ‘#candid’ on their Instagram pictures. And jeggings.
HC: Other than a common interest in Pint Night, what do you look for in a girl?
TB: I like girls who are sarcastic and challenging, who give me a little bit of a hard time. We have to have similar tastes in music, and I also have a soft spot for tennis players!
HC: Speaking of similar music tastes, what is your favorite type of music?
TB: Indie electronic is my favorite, but I pretty much like anything except for country.
HC: You are currently studying abroad. Tell me about your time here in Sevilla so far.
TB: It’s very different here [in Sevilla] than at UNC. I’ve met a lot of new people and I’m learning Spanish a lot better than I would have in the States.
HC: What is the coolest thing that you have done so far while studying abroad?
TB: I went in a hot air balloon over the Spanish countryside and it was breathtaking.
HC: What do you miss most about UNC?
TB: No question. Brunch at Elmo’s. Then my roommates and neighbors in 417 Hillsborough, you know who you are!
HC: What are your plans for this summer?
TB: I want to get my bartending license because I really want to work at Tru Wine Bar next year. And I’m also going to intern in Washington D.C. Also, I’m looking forward to coming back and visiting Chapel Hill.
Now I know we’re all wondering when we can get our hands on this world-traveling cutie, but we’re going to have to wait until he returns to the states in May…patience is a virtue?
Until then, follow him on Instagram and Twitter @thblount!
