A table laden with cupcakes, plastic sunglasses, koozies and tank tops sits in front of a garment rack filled with colorful dresses and skirts. Girls are entering a raffle to win prizes and a few grab their favorite designs off the rack to try on. This was the scene of a recent Emma Graham Designs trunk show at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Conceived by Emma Mahon and Jackie Graham, Emma Graham Designs is a preppy and girly clothing line designed specifically for college students and recent graduates. Friends since childhood, Mahon and Graham attended different colleges but remained close friends. The women often complained about the lack of stylish but affordable clothes for college students needed for the many football games, cocktails, weddings and evenings out. After graduation, they combined Graham’s business and entrepreneurial skills with Mahon’s fashion merchandising and design knowledge to create a clothing line that would solve this dilemma.
To reach fashionable college students, they hired design consultants at colleges across the United States that host trunk shows and spread the word about Emma Graham. If you order a dress at a trunk show you even receive free shipping! Emma Graham dresses have a structured feel with their perfectly placed seams but also give off a playful vibe with low backs and bright colors. Some of the dresses feature beautiful bows while others have lace. EGD also offers skirts and sun hats with silk ribbons that would be right at home at Carolina Cup. The clothes can be ordered online or bought at a trunk show held on campus.
Emma Graham is unique in the fact that many of the dresses and skirts can be custom ordered. Pick out the dress in your favorite color or get a Carolina blue one for future game days! The trim on the dress can be ordered in a different color as well.
Another trunk show will be held at 215 East Rosemary St., the Alpha Chi Omega house, Tuesday, March 20 from 5 to 7:30. Â The trunk show will be at the same time as the Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Tau Omega cookout benefitting Habitat for Humanity and the Family Violence Prevention Center. A small portion of the Emma Graham show will benefit these charities as well. So come out to get some great food and beautiful dresses just in time for Carolina Cup all for a good cause!
