It’s more than a fad, it’s almost a fact: Everyone is reading Suzanne Collins’ trilogy The Hunger Games. Haven’t heard of it? Then you must be Patrick Star, because you are clearly living under a rock.
Now that the movie has come out—and may I say the midnight premiere was totally worth it—we are lucky enough to have the vision of these books brought to life. This means that aside from seeing our favorite characters in the flesh, we also get to see all of the beautiful clothing.
Though the fashion ranges from the poorly dressed citizen of the outlying districts to the ridiculous haute couture of the Capitol, we’ve found a way for you to become a tried-and-true citizen of Panem, or at the very least look like a movie extra.
In District 12:
-
Pastels
- Who could forget Katniss’s blue reaping dress? Think about incorporating some pale yellows and baby pinks into your wardrobe.
- Try This: Pleated Silky Blouse by Sparkle & Fade

Floral Prints
- All the girls seemed to be sporting delicately patterned florals or traditionally feminine attire.
- Try This: Floral contrast Top by Forever 21
-
Retro Dresses
- Most of the girls sported knee-length dresses with collars and pleated skirts.
- Try This: Won’t You Be Monarch? Dress by Modcloth
In the Capitol:

Bright colors
- “The brighter, the better” could have been Elizabeth Banks’s motto in this film. It’s all about standing out. Consider buying some jewel tones like teal, fuchsia and mandarin orange.

-
Stand-out heels
- Try This: Printy Floral Pump by Zigi Soho

In the Arena:
- Dark, camouflage colors
- Tributes wore a lot of browns, greens and black to blend into their forest surroundings.
- Try This: Etched Leaves Top by Forever 21
-
Boots
- Katniss totally rocks boots while hunting and in the arena. They’re sturdy and cute—what more could you want?
- Try This: Patch Bootie by Franco Sarto
-
Weather-proofing
- Everyone loved the tributes’ rain-style jackets, and they were as functional as they were cute!
