Not going to lie, I was a little nervous about this week’s article, when I heard the theme: #LetsTalkAboutSex.
After sitting down in UNC-CH’s student union, I thought to myself – well, I might as well be honest. I wrote down the first thing that came to mind.
The headline to this article was born.
My goals in life were always to focus on my future and my happiness. Not like I am not open to dating, but it just has not happened yet. I talked to a few friends, some who are in relationships and some who aren’t, and I asked them for their reaction to this statement.
I’m 21, and I have never had a boyfriend.
Here’s a list of my favorite reactions.
-
“And – you are not missing out on much.”
-
This reaction is everything.
- “And – Same. Go girl!”
-
- “And – there isn’t a set timeline of when things are supposed to happen.”
-
- “And – I don’t think it matters, to be honest.”
-
- “And – more power to you! It’s empowering that you are focusing on yourself and happiness.”
-
Of course, I do question it sometimes and think, “I probably should be in a relationship soon.” I think this is natural as you get older and watch all your friends find significant others. I really started to question it when my childhood best friend asked me to be her bridesmaid. (I said yes, btw!)
The responses I received make me feel better about it though. There really is not a timeline.
And if you are in the same boat as me, remember that everyone has his or her own path and that finding your significant other takes time.
In conclusion, I am 21, and I have never had a boyfriend – and that is completely fine.
