Realizing We Have More To Be Thankful For Than We Think

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Over the last few weeks, stuck inside and transitioning my entire life to be online, I’ve had time to reflect on a lot of the bad things happening in the world. It’s easy to fall into the endless cycle of reading or watching the news, seeing bad things and not realizing that there is also good. In these scary and unpredictable times, it’s all too simple to get caught up in negativity and fear. What’s harder is realizing that there is still good in the world.

As things get more difficult in the weeks to come, I would like for us to take time to reflect on the good that we have. I am at home with a family who loves me, and even though this isn’t how I anticipated spending my last semester of college, I am still grateful for this time with people I love. I am also safe, and I know that is a blessing beyond my comprehension right now. I still have the ability to complete my courses and club activities online, and I should be thankful for the ability to use technology in such a beneficial way.

There are reasons to have fear, that much is obvious. But, while we’re stuck inside, let’s learn to reflect on the good. Let’s thank the brave people saving lives and keeping our world turning for their service.

This is a time for reflection. It’s a time to realize that we have more to be grateful for than we might think. Those are the things that we can’t forget, even though, in times like these, it might be all too easy to do so.

I encourage you to take time out of your day to reflect on the good. Reflect on the things for which we should be grateful. I’ve come to reallize that we have more to be grateful for than we think, and I hope that you can all come to that realization too. Maybe that reflection needs to come from writing in a journal, doing a little late night reading or just thinking before bed at night. Regardless, I think that this is the time to do it.

Let’s reflect on the love in this world and fill it with the same thing.
