Spring Showers? No Problem! 5 Tips to Tackle a Rainy Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

1. Always, always, always keep a spare umbrella in your backpack.

With this bipolar North Carolina weather, you never know if you are going to step out into a blizzard or a downpour. Either way, having an umbrella handy can save your cute outfit and your mood. Looking up the weather forecast before class is also helpful, but when that 40% chance of precipitation spontaneously changes to 90%, it is better to be safe than sorry. No one wants to be that girl running across campus with books, or worse a laptop, covering her head.

2. Don’t take your rain boots for granted.

I don’t know about you, but my rain boots have been life savers since I began college. Yes, everyone hates putting them on in the morning as they are anticipating a storm, and later feeling like an idiot when there isn’t a cloud in the sky. We’ve all had the weather app on our phones fail us from time to time. But, on the days that they are truly needed, my rain boots have protected me from coming back with soaked feet and ruined shoes. If you really hate their rubbery, plastic look and rather take the chance of having soggy socks, look for fun styles like this. The black color is effortlessly chic and the short bootie is on trend right now!

3.  Stay stylish and dry with a killer raincoat.

It is the absolute worst when you look outside to find the skies grey and angry on a day of a big presentation or an important interview. If  you are planning to dress up a bit and don’t want to mess up your outfit, a cute and protective raincoat will keep you feeling dry and professional. Sometimes it can be quite difficult to find the in between of “outdoorsy” and “I sorta look like a 12-year-old” when it comes to rain jackets. A classic trench is the perfect piece for a rainy-day look. I love this khaki colored jacket! It goes with everything and even has a hood–score!

4. Turn your rainy day blues around by planning a fun girls night in.

The flowers are finally starting to bloom and the temperature is steadily rising so it’s about time to break out your spring wedges for a night out on the town. What happens when you’re hit with a tsunami and your plans crash and burn? Girls-night-in, duh! Don’t let rain showers ruin your night. Grab your girls, pick up some movies, and maybe order a couple pizzas to keep the night fun. Sometimes the best evenings are spent snuggling up with your friends and catching up on life.

5. Hot tea and fuzzy socks can conquer all.

Walking from class to class in the rain with wet hair and wet socks can put any girl in a bad mood. Instead of going home pouting and cold, look forward to that feeling of slipping into your favorite pair of fuzzy socks. Sipping on a cup of hot tea is also a great idea. The warmth of the tea and the snuggly feeling from your socks will have you relaxed in no time. If you aren’t a tea person, then hot chocolate or a yummy mug of coffee will definitely suffice!
