Tackling Game Day Style at UNC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

It’s that time of the year again — FOOTBALL. The first football game is Friday, Sept. 1 against Elon beginning at 12:30 p.m.

With the first game under Fedora, a lot of people are pumped up! The team has been working hard all summer, and there is a new playbook on the field. Be there, be cute, be loud!

Game days are big social events, and it is important to dress for success. Here are the most common looks at UNC football games.

The “suite-y next door.”

Just put on your favorite Carolina blue shirt, some shorts and throw your hair up. This is an easy look that is casual and cute, and which allows for comfort at myriad events from tailgating to eating after the Carolina victory on Franklin Street.

The “sports fanatic.”
Is your blood Carolina blue? If you can’t contain your team spirit, try dressing up.
Painting up is a popular option. Wearing (not your favorite) shorts and a (not your favorite) sports bra, you can paint your body with other fans to support the team. Make sure to apply sunscreen before painting otherwise you’ll have half a Heelprint on your side for a year.

Another option are the fun wigs from student stores — but these do get hot, and you will have massive hat hair after the game.

Other, more dedicated fans, decide to cover their outfits with the free game day pompoms — creating the favored ‘pompom yeti.’ Hard to pull off, but if you have the spirit, we want to hear it.

The “Sweet Caroline”

The cowgirl boots and sundress look may get eyerolls and glares from the marching band, but this look is adorable. Make sure you incorporate Carolina blue somewhere, and remember you’ll be standing for approximately four hours. The sundress look is classic on the red carpet or blue stadium.

Remember to bring your student ID and some money for drinks (you can’t take anything but sealed water into the game).
