As collegiettes™ we love getting mail: reminders from home that our family misses us, our favorite magazines, or that new shirt ordered online from J. Crew! One of the main reasons why we love getting mail is because it doesn’t come into our life very often. In the modern world of email, texting, Facebook and Twitter, less and less is sent by good old-fashioned snail mail. Yet we still derive great excitement from finding a crisp white envelope in our mailbox filled with love. But what about for those who are lacking in love? Shouldn’t we share this warm and fuzzy feeling with others? That’s where moreloveletters.com comes in.
The World Needs More Love Letters is a social project started by Hannah Brencher, who started by writing letters to fellow train riders who looked in need of some cheering up. Since the campaign started in September 2011, more than 2000 love letters have been sent worldwide! Now they need you to help spread the love even further. It’s super easy, really fun, and of course, extremely rewarding. There are four ways to get involved:
1. Subscribe to the love letter list: Each month they will send you a short story about someone who needs more love letters in their life. You will have 10 days to get out your markers, stickers, glitter and coolest stationary and write them a note of cheeriness. They don’t have to be super fancy, they can be really simple, just letting them know that you care.
2. Leave random letters of love: You can write love letters to anyone, even if you don’t know their name. Leave them in coffee shops, libraries, or anywhere on campus for someone to find. Just make sure to write moreloveletters.com somewhere on the note so the person who finds it will know where to go to spread the love.
3. Adopt a love letter bundle: Think this whole writing letters thing sounds like a fabulous idea? Want to write even more? Do you have a group of friends who want to help too? Great! Sign up to write a love letter bundle, and grab a group of friends or turn this into a service project for your club or organization. You can all write letters to one very special person in need of love, bundle them all up, and send a whole pile of love to someone in need.
4. Nominate someone for a love letter: Know someone in particular need of some extra love? Nominate him or her to receive a personal love letter from the moreloveletters.com team of expert writers!
