End of Freshman Year of College Realizations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapman chapter.

I can’t believe I’m typing this, but the school year is almost over. For me, this means that my freshman year of college is nearly finished. While at times it feels like move-in day was just last week, I am able to look back on how much I’ve grown since I started college and what I’ve learned through the course of this short year. Here are some things I’ve come to learn:

  1. College goes by really fast

  2. Family is everything

  3. So is home

  4. It’s better to have a few really good friends than a lot of acquaintances

  5. Getting yourself to go to the gym is difficult

  6. 1 am is like 10 pm in college

  7. Going to things by yourself is worth it, and gets you out of your comfort zone

  8. Getting out of your comfort zone is so important

  9. Naps are essential in college

  10. College is much better than high school

  11. Everyone is going through their own personal struggles. Everyone.

  12. Going to the library to study is worth it

  13. College allows you to gain a personal identity in a way that you haven’t before

  14. Cafeteria food gets really old really fast

  15. Exploring the area around your college can be so amazing

  16. I don’t know what I want to do with my life yet

  17. It’s ok to be a freshman (or a sophomore, or a junior, or a senior) and not know what you want to do with your life

  18. People will help you if you just ask

  19. Eating well is hard in college

  20. Some of the best times happen spontaneously
