*This article contains spoilers about “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life”*
After nearly a decade hiatus, loyal Gilmore Girls fans were once again welcomed back into Lorelai and Rory’s wonderful world of coffee, pizza, Friday Night Dinners and the quirky yet charming town of Stars Hallow. The stakes were high for showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino to deliver an ending to her beloved series that offered closure, answers and wrapped up all of the unfinished business we’ve spent nine years stressing about. While there is still much debate as to whether Sherman-Palladino followed through, we broke down our expectations of the revival, and compared and contrasted it to reality. But first, we have our own set of four final words: When is season two?
Â
Expectation: Logan and Rory would finally get engaged.
Reality: Logan is already engaged to some faceless French heiress named Odette.
*Sub-expectation: Logan dumps Odette for Rory.
*Sub-reality: Logan cheats on Odette with Rory.
Expectation: Lorelai and Luke have a child.
Reality: Lorelai and Luke dabble in this idea with the help of Paris, who runs her own fertility clinic!
Expectation: Emily becomes even more bitter after Richard passes.
Reality: Emily treats her maid nicely, quits the DAR and comes into her own.
Expectation: The four final words are “Mom, I love you.”
Reality: Rory admits she’s pregnant and we are left wondering if the father is Logan, Jess or Paul/Peter/Patrick/Pete.
Expectation: Rory is a super successful journalist.
Reality: Rory is a homeless freelancer.
Expectation: Rory is happily dating Logan.
Reality: Rory bootycalls Logan on the regular to complain about her life.
Expectation: Kirk and Lulu have a child.
Reality: Kirk and Lulu have a pig named Petal, and we are in love.
Expectation: Many political jokes.
Reality: Hundreds of pop culture references (yes, we counted).
Expectation: Technology hasn’t yet reached Stars Hallow.
Reality: Everyone has iPhones and Luke’s is flooded with laptops.
Expectation: Paris would raise her own children the opposite of how she was brought up.
Reality: Paris’s children are in love with the nanny – like mother, like daughter!
Expectation: The theme song would play in the beginning of every episode.
Reality: It only played at the end, and we sobbed for a good hour. Also, Carole King’s cameo was everything and more.
