How is it being a senior so far?

It’s been amazing, I feel like after 3 years of figuring it out I’m finally in a place where I can do my life the way I want to.

Tell us about hosting Yoga on the Lawn.

Yoga on the Lawn was easily my favorite thing I’ve done at Chapman. To be able to reach that many students at once is so incredible. I had a blast!

You also teach at Radiant Hot Yoga, what is your favorite part about that?

My favorite part is just being so stoked to go to work. I worked my butt off to get certified and it was the first time I had done something completely and totally for me, the hard work payed off and now I get paid to do what I love. Also the community at Radiant is amazing!

How was interning in New York this summer? What did you do?

I worked at a non profit called Petals-N-Belles which provides empowerment programming for young girls in Brooklyn. I helped to plan, write, and execute their summer program. It was such an incredible experience being in that city by myself and hopefully making a difference while also having a total blast. My boss was amazing I learned a ton about non profit work and really regained my independence in a pretty cool way.

You are extremely passionate about bringing out the confidence in women, can you talk a little about that?

For years I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was involved in a lot and could never find that one thing that was mine. My junior year of high school I was a CIT at a camp I went to for the first time, I worked one on one with a young girl just to provide space for her to shine. At the end of the week she told me that I inspired her to be great and that’s when I knew that working with young women was it for me. Our society is set up in a way that often silences female voices, often it’s not intentional but instead it’s just patterns of institutionalized sexism. Females make up 51% of our population and if we aren’t giving that 51% space to shine we’re hurting the world.

Who is your inspiration?

Oh my goodness I have so many. My mother takes the cake though, she is the wisest human with the biggest heart who can laugh at anything and everything. I’ve watched her do what she loves and succeed despite all the road blocks that have been put in her way, and through all of it she is 100% there for every single person she loves. Her generosity and emotional strength is inspiring and beyond.

Any idea for plans after graduation? (Worst question, I’m sorry!)

Yaaaaa! So I’m pretty dead set on moving to New York City. The idea is to get a job working with some type of human rights or social justice organization for a little while and then go back to school to get my masters in social work so I can work more one on one with youth. I don’t have an exact plan yet but I know I need some more of that magical city and I want to work for a cause I am passionate about. Time to step way out of my comfort zone and I’m stoked about it.
