Kellyn Toole: Too Cool For School

1. It’s your last day on earth: what would you do/where would you go/who with?

I would love to say something completely off the charts cool and adventurous, because you know, who wouldn’t want to read about a gal who spent her last day on earth running across the Pacific Ocean in a hamster ball wearing nothing but Elvis’ jumpsuit that she stole from a museum earlier that day and carrying nothing but a pack of limited edition brownie batter Oreos? Too good. But in reality, I would do what’s important. I would spend time with my family and loved ones and just enjoy the day. I would tell those that I care about, that I care about them, and I would do my best to live in the moment. I would eat lots of Oreos, listen to lots of One Direction, tell lots of jokes, and probably cry. A lot. ;)

2. What is your perfect first date?

I don’t really have anything particular in mind for a perfect first date. It doesn’t really matter what we do as long as I like the person I’m with, and I have the opportunity to get to know them. I don’t think a movie would be ideal, because it’s sort of hard to get to know someone when proper movie theatre etiquette suggests silence and attention to the screen throughout the entirety of the film. Grabbing a bite to eat (I am gagging at the fact that I just used that phrase) wouldn’t be bad except for the fact that I stain EVERYTHING. Literally everything; my mom can vouch for me. If it wasn’t for my Tide to Go Stain Remover Stick, I’d be a mess, literally #lol (this sentence was not sponsored by Tide to Go, although I wish it was. Thank you). If there were Oreos anywhere in the vicinity that would of course be a plus, but I’m pretty good at turning any situation into a good time and so I’m pretty open to anything.

3. If you could be anything other than human, what would you be and why?

If I could be anything other than human, I would probably be a wax figure of myself. That way, I could still make an appearance in my family photographs. This isn’t for me, I’m not very into having my picture taken. This is entirely for the benefit of my family. They really need me around, I mean look at them. I definitely bring up the group average.

All jokes aside, I think it would be pretty cool to be butter. I find myself feeling a bit “spread thin” sometimes with everything I end up putting on my plate. It’d be interesting to see how it actually feels to be spread thin; maybe it would change my outlook of things.

4. If you could change *one* thing about chapman (literally anything) what would it be?

There’s not much that comes to mind right away. I’ve only been at Chapman for around 3 months and as of now, I would just put a water fountain in the dorms. It seems like a pretty obvious thing to do, but then again, so does brushing your hair in the morning (especially when you have a giant knot on the back of your head) and I do that maybe three times a week. Ask me again when I’m a senior, I’m sure my answer will have changed. By then, I’ll most likely be brushing my hair twice a week, but I’m sure after a few years at Chapman I’ll start to see things that the newness of college temporarily blinded me to.

5. What is the highlight of your freshman year so far?

The highlight of my freshman year so far is definitely the people I’ve met and the friends I’ve made. I’m from Colorado, and I knew one person already at Chapman when I decided to attend (S/O to Emma Colapinto you the real homie #squad). I was a bit nervous coming into school, just because everything was so new. But so far, I have really lucked out. I have two of the greatest humans ever as my roommates. I have the most genuine and “dapper” (lol) RA (@Justice). I have Theta and all my cheetah Thistas!!! I have Oreos in my dorm room. Freshman year, so far, has given me friends. But not just any friends, friends who laugh at my jokes when even I know that they’re not funny. #loyal
