By now, whether you’re in the sports world or not, everyone has heard about the D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young video scandal.
But just in case you’ve been living under a rock….. D’Angelo Russell, 20, videotaped his L.A. Lakers teammate Nick Young, 30, saying he cheated on his hip-hop superstar fiancé Iggy Azalea with a 19 year old he met in a club. Russell then goes on to ask if he would ever try anything with Amber Rose to which Young simply replies no because her and Iggy are ‘friends’.
Since this video has come out Russell has been raked over the coals by the media and other players. Apparently none of his teammates would even sit with him at practice or team meals. People cannot believe that Russell would be so careless and thoughtless to do this to a teammate. But I can’t help but wonder – why is nobody asking Nick Young to take responsibility for his actions?
I understand that the bond between teammates is a sacred thing and that at the end of the day Russell broke not only his teammate but his friend’s trust. Apparently these two are pranksters and are always recording each other doing dumb stuff. At the end of the video he even says to Nick Young that he was videotaping him, so it’s not like Nick Young had no idea the video existed! I’m not saying Russell shouldn’t apologize or feel bad for his actions – I just think there is a huge part of this puzzle that is being largely overlooked.
Nick Young admits to cheating on his fiancé with a TEENAGER and no one really seems to care (except for probably Iggy Azalea). In my opinion, he shows no remorse. He answers Russell’s questions as nonchalantly as he would if he had been asked about the weather. When asked if he would ever try anything with Amber Rose he doesn’t say no because he ‘made a mistake when he cheated’, instead he says no because ‘they’re friends’ insinuating that his fiancé would undoubtedly find out. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS? Granted I haven’t read every article or watched every video on the subject but I have mostly found nothing that raises the issue of what Nick Young did. These sports shows can argue until they’re blue in the face about the severity of D’Angelo Russell’s video leak and if it could ruin his career but breeze through the actual actions of Nick Young. It doesn’t make any sense to me. Young’s actions are disgusting and his lack of respect for the woman he is trying to marry is pretty apparent and I think it’s sad that no one is questioning his character too.
It’s interesting the timing of all this because just a few days ago there was a cheating scandal revolving around Kyrie Irving and his girlfriend Kehlani – but in this situation the roles are flipped. A picture of Kehlani with an ex on instagram surfaced and the social media world exploded. Kehlani has been brutalized over her ‘actions’ even having artists like Chris Brown calling her out. The backlash has been so bad that Kehlani apparently attempted suicide. Do I smell a double standard? I’ll let you decide…..
