“Everyone has their own experience. That’s why we are here, to go through our experience, to learn, to go down those paths and eventually you may have gone down so many paths and learned so much that you don’t have to come back again.”- Prince
On April 21 at 10:07 a.m., the world was shocked to learn that a musical legend had passed away in his home state of Minnesota. Prince was only 57, but has left a lasting mark on the world. An autopsy was performed on Friday morning at 9am. However, it may be weeks before the world is informed with the cause of his death. According to CNN, paramedics tried to perform CPR however, they were unable to revive him. Prince was a seven-time Grammy winner. His album “Purple Rain” won an Academy Award and sold more than 13 million copies in the United States alone. Prince’s famous songs include, “Little Red Corvette,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and “Kiss.”
He was born into a family of musicians with parents who were a jazz pianist and singer. He was self-taught in guitar, piano, drums, bass, saxophone and more! He signed his first record contract when he was in his late teenage years. Prince wrote, composed, sang and performed all of the instruments on his 1978 studio album. The NY Times described Prince as, “a wildly prolific songwriter, a virtuoso on guitars, keyboards and drums and a master architect of funk, rock, R&B and pop, even as his music defied genres.” President Barack Obama said, “”As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all. Funk. R&B. Rock and roll. He was a virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader and an electrifying performer…”
Also, Snapchat was quick to honor Prince by adding a purple rain filter. His death means more than just another Hollywood death because he inspired people to be themselves and he pushed boundaries. He dared to try things that artists before him were hesitant to do. He bent fashion rules by wearing high heels, crop tops, bikinis and more. Prince was unique, innovative and loved by millions and with no doubts, will be missed but remembered for years and years.
