What to Do with Those Leftover Apples from Apple Picking

Apple picking is definitely one of my favorite fall activities. I love getting bundled up in cute fall clothes and heading to the orchard with some friends to take pictures and pick apples. However, I always seem to overestimate how many apples I will actually eat though, and I hate wasting food. So, I asked around and dug through Pinterest boards for hours trying to find the best apple recipes.

Here’s a few ideas of ways to use those leftover apples from your trip to the orchard!

  1. Apple Pie

An American staple! You can’t go wrong with making an apple pie. Many families have recipes that they pass down for generations, but if not, check out this recipe from Pinterest!

  1. Homemade Applesauce

This is one of the easiest ways to use those leftover apples. My mom has been making homemade applesauce for years and it’s a personal favorite! My recipe is as follows:

  1. Peel and dice 5-6 medium apples and place them in a medium sized pot

  2. Fill the pot with water to the top of the apples

  3. Boil the apples for 10 minutes

  4. Add a half-cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon (can add more based on preference!)

  5. Continue to boil for another 5-7 minutes. Use a fork to squish up the apples until you find a consistency you like.

  1. Homemade Apple Fritters

I love a good donut, who doesn’t? I found this recipe for easy apple fritters on Pinterest and it looks amazing!

  1. Oven-baked Apple Chips

If you’re looking for a healthier option that doesn’t include a bunch of added sugar, this is for you! According to this Pinterest recipe, all you need to make these apple chips is a cutting board and an oven. Cinnamon is optional. Simply slice the apples and bake them until crispy.
