City University’s Students’ Union inaugurates the academic year with a packed Freshers Week, during which all of the CULSU-organised events for the university’s greenhorns were run under the theme ‘City Unlocked’.Â
Â
Freshers events included a quiz and film night at the university, hosted by the SU; while some of the night outs were at the Propaganda in O2 Islington, the Warehouse Party in Islington Metalworks and the International Mixer in XOYO.Â
Â
The Raising and Giving (RAG) Fair also raised £107.12 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Vice President for Activities Natalia Rajapakse expressed her delight on the event’s success and thanked everyone who came on her Facebook page.

The annual Freshers Fair was held at The Barbican Centre on the 24th of September where students were given the opportunity to mingle and get to know the clubs and societies they can join during their academic years.Â
Â
City Uni London Freshers’ culminated with the Boat Ball, when the three sabbatical officers – Rima Amin, Issy Cooke and Natalia Rajapakse – took 600 students across River Thames.
Â
First-year student Chloe Darnaud was impressed by the university organisation: “It seems like a university particularly devoted to their students’ success.” When asked about Freshers’ Week she said it only went “okay”. “Events are pretty expensive unfortunately, so I didn’t go to many. For example, the boat ball was ÂŁ20! Nevertheless, I went to the night at Pacha and the one at Fabric, and they were both really good. You can to meet so many people there. It’s great,” she added.Â
Â
The freshers were also welcomed with a refurbished student canteen. However, the SU bar remains not ready, while renovations expected to finish on November take place. Meanwhile, pop-up bar ‘The Hive’ is made available by the SU to temporarily cater cheap drinks to the students.
