5 Mug Recipes You Can Make In Your Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clarion chapter.

One of the saddest parts about going back to school is saying goodbye to nice home cooked meals.  It seems impossible to make anything other than ramen and Pop-Tarts in a cramped dorm room, but I’ve recently discovered a few recipes that you can make in a dorm room using only a mug and a microwave!

1. Mug Omelette (Source: JustPutzing.com)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tbsp flour

  • 1 tbsp skim milk

  • 1 tbsp low-fat grated cheese

  • 2 tbsp diced green bell pepper

  • 2 tbsp diced onion

  • ½ a Perfect Portions Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast fillet

  • Salt/pepper

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small bowl (or directly in your mug), crack and beat your eggs with a fork.

  2. Stir in the flour, milk, cheese, and diced vegetables.

  3. Chop your chicken breast half into small pieces. Add to your egg mixture.

  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Pour mixture into your mug.

  6. Microwave for 1-1/2 min to 2 min.

2. Carrot Cake (Source: MildlyMeandering.com)

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup flour

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tbsp butter melted

  • 2 tbsp carrots shredded

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • Whipped cream for topping

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a small bowl (or straight inside the mug), combine all ingredients in and stir until there are no lumps.

  2. Microwave for 1-1.5 minutes or until baked through.

  3. Top with whipped cream

3. Mac and Cheese (Source: theviewfromgreatisland.com)

INGREDIENTS

  • elbow noodles

  • some pre-shredded cheese

  • a little milk

  • and water

DIRECTIONS

  1. Put 1/3 cup of elbow noodles into your mug.

  2. Add 1/2 cup of water to it.  Basically you will microwave this mixture until the water has evaporated.  Microwave it for 2 minutes to start, then stir.  Then another minute, and stir again.  Then a final minute, and the water should be absorbed.  If not, microwave a bit more until it is.

  3. Stir in the milk and shredded cheese and microwave for a final 30-60 seconds. Stir well, and enjoy.
