With midterms almost over (and finals quickly approaching!) every collegiate could use a place to kick back, relax and study. Let’s face it––we all need a new “home” when it comes time to write papers and study for exams. But sometimes going to your average university library can be mundane, and that makes it difficult to concentrate and perform at your best. What if I told you that you can find a place on campus to study besides the library? Here are five of the best places to study on campus other than Goddard library.
Local Coffee Shop: Acoustic Java
Located on Main Street, this spot has an array of delicious drinks and snacks that will give you the energy to study, along with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that is perfect for studying. Just seconds off campus, it’s a great place to get work done and reward yourself with something sweet!
Head Outside: Zen Garden
Just outside Estabrook and the Little Center is the Zen Garden, a beautiful place to study. Whether you’re bathing in the sun, catching some shade under the tree, or kicking back on one of the benches, the Zen Garden provides some much needed fresh air and relaxation that’s healthy when cramming for exams. Who knows, maybe your study buddies are interested in a picnic?
Small Library on Campus: Kasperson Library
Take a five-minute walk up Woodland Street to find this hidden gem. Kasperson Library is a hole-in-the-wall library that’s extremely quiet and exclusive. There are multiple study rooms in this facility that are guaranteed to help you focus, and you can take advantage of a wide variety of books and resources that may help you in your studies.
Department Lounges
Department lounges are dependent on your major, but if you are one of the lucky majors with a great lounge, these comfortable spaces can be great places to study. For example, Clark’s English house provides a homey environment that allows you to relax in a space that comforts the soul, and is furnished with couches and rocking chairs that will remind you of home. Make these lounges your home away from home.
Alumni and Student Engagement Center (ASEC)
Situated on Main Street just across from Jonas Clark, the ASEC building provides a new, modern atmosphere with plenty of lounging space that is perfect for studying. You can grab a seasonal Starbucks drink at the Den and head to a comfortable couch to partake in some serious studying.
We all know how repetitive and monotonous studying and writing papers can be this time of year. Changing your scenery can change your mood and help motivate you. Sometimes a little positive reinforcement is all you need to succeed, and these spots will definitely help you get there. Don’t fret––there are plenty of spaces on campus to find yourself a new and comfortable home away from home during midterms and as finals season approaches!
