Emilee is a sophomore at Clark from Everett, Mass. and is studying Management. She is involved in a lot of work behind the scenes on campus. Emilee is concerned about the welfare of the Clark Community. Financially, Emilee helps students with tuition raises and sits on an Ad-hoc committee looking at Tuition and Financial Reform. Socially, she ensures that clubs have enough money to put on their events successfully. Emilee has also worked hard with SODEXO, creating an alternative to swap times with the All-Access Plus plan. Overall, Emilee is greatly involved in many clubs and she really takes pride in being a Clarkie.
HC: What is your role on Student Council?
EC:I am currently the Grants Chair, which means that a club or individual comes to me and asks for money for a certain event. Based on their need and our bylaws, we recommend a certain amount for that request. With the financial situation of clubs this year, it is more difficult to allocate money. However, my approach is to communicate our situation and come to a compromise in which both parties are satisfied. Mainly my job is to help clubs and individuals. Other than Grants Chair, I am very involved with Sodexo. I help with the communication between Dining Services and the students. I am also on the Bookstore Committee, which is planning for the new bookstore across the street.
HC: You are doing an Ureka project here on campus. Can you explain what you’re doing for that?
EC: Sure! I’m creating these Massachusetts subscription boxes with my friends (Wandong Yang, Michelle Lam, Maria Rudorf, and Adam Katzman). It’s like Birch Box or Graze, but things from these boxes will be specifically relevant to Massachusetts. For example, we want to create a Worcester box, Red Sox box and anything else popular to Massachusetts. It will be a surprise each month. We are really excited about this and we can’t wait to see what will happen.

HC: That’s awesome! You’re also starting the Newman Association again. What is it?
EC: Yes, the Newman Association is the Catholic Club on campus. It sort of fell apart last year, but we’re now recreating it. I’m working with Anayeli Nieves and we want this to be more open to anyone of any religion – not just Catholics. We want to hold dinners and discuss religion as a whole. We would like to talk about how religion plays a role into your personal, work and academic life. I already spoke to people from other religious clubs and they are more than willing to come, so it’s really exciting. We also hope to collaborate with other campus ministry clubs from other colleges, so I am really hopeful this will take off soon.

HC: Great! Thank you so much Emilee. So last question: what do you want to do after Clark?
EC: So I hope to graduate with my MBA and then possibly go into real estate. I mean it’s really up in the air. I really like the concept of entrepreneurship, but my main goal is go into non-profit. I would be happy with anything in public service. I plan on living in Massachusetts. At the end of the day, I just want to be happy in my work place and live around my family and friends. Thank you for the interview. I really appreciate it!
Thanks Emilee!
