This week we sat down with senior, Kate Conquest, who tells us about her plans after Clark!
Name: Kate Conquest
Hometown: Wells River, VT
Major: Sociology
Favorite Professor at Clark: Bruce London. He has since retired, but he taught sociology and specialized in environmental justice. His teaching style was painstakingly thorough, but everything I learned in his classes now seems like second-hand knowledge. The first class I had with him so inspiring it was responsible for my identity crisis and change of major as a second semester junior.
Favorite Class at Clark: Sociology of the Environment – Bruce London, Sociology of Medicine – Deborah Merrill
Favorite Spot to Study on Campus and Why: Third floor carrel facing the Kneller. I like studying by a window. I would say it’s because I like the natural light but it’s probably just because I can get distracted and people-watch.
Favorite Bistro Snack: Chicken pesto tomato panini
What has been your favorite thing about going to school at Clark? Good professors that care about their work. Great friendships where we can watch trashy TV but then turn right around and have thoughtful, passionate conversations.
What will you miss most about Clark? Having so many wonderful people so close by. And the cheap rent.
What clubs and activities were you involved with on campus? The Scarlet, Study Abroad Ambassador, off-campus job
What are your best words of wisdom for underclassmen? I know everyone says this, but really get to know a good professor or two really well. And study abroad if you can!
What are your plans post-graduation? Taking the next year or two to get full-time real-world experience, then go to grad school for Public Health-Health Policy!
Thanks, Kate!
