Cheap Date Ideas on Clemson’s Campus
As the weather gets colder, and the holiday season is coming up around the corner, campus
cuties are connecting everywhere. It’s a great time to have that special someone to cuddle up
next to as the leaves start to turn and the air gets crisp. However, doing the same activities all
the time or going out with the same group of friends can be a little repetitive. Whether you’re
trying to spice things up with your long time love, or trying to impress a new special someone in
your life, these cheap date ideas are a great way to change up your routine.
1. Catch a free movie at McKissick Theater.
The first thing that pops into your head when you think date night is probably catching a movie on the big screen. At
Clemson, students have the chance to see movies that haven’t yet been released on DVD for free at our theater inside the Hendrix
Student Center. This semester, you can impress your date with the awesome dance moves in
Magic Mike XL, make the laugh with Ted 2, cuddle up to the scary Insidious 3, or pull at their
heart strings with Inside Out. On top of all that, you get free popcorn and soda, and who can
turn down free food? For more details, and info on other events, check out CLEMSONLiVE’s
Facebook page here
2. Challenge them to a bowl off at the Underground Recreation Center
If your cutie has a competitive side, take them to the Underground Recreation Center at the
Student Union. For just $2 for the lane and shoes, you can access a bowling lane and take bets
on who will win. Have the loser buy the winner dinner at Chili’s Too, located right in the Union.
3. Take them to a show at the Brooks Center
As one of the top 8 theater venues in the nation, the brooks center is a beautiful venue
in its own right. Impress your date on how cultured you are by taking them to one of the
many great performances the Brooks Center holds. The Clemson Players’ second show
of the season is a British comedy called Loot, which will be showing November 16th-20th
at 7:30 pm and November 22nd at 3:00 pm. At only $6 for a student ticket, this is a great
date at a budget price. Check out the Brooks Centers website for more events and
details here.
4. Go kayaking at the campus beach
While fall is approaching, and the weather is starting to get colder, we still have a few
days of warmer weather left. Take advantage of this time and take your date out on
Clemson’s lake. Rent a kayak for $15 and take in the last bit of sun with your cutie as the
season ends.
5. Get ice-cream at ’55 Exchange
Some people may argue that ice cream is a year round treat, but we all can agree that it
tastes best on those long, hot summer days. Just like with kayaking, you should take
advantage of the last bit of warmth this year by taking your significant other to ’55
Exchange in the Hendrix Center. The ice cream is famous for a reason, and it’s an
experience unique to Clemson that everyone should have at least once.
