Have you ever walked through the Student Union and passed the Paw Pantry door? If you don’t know where I’m talking about, older students will know it as next to Harcombe dining hall (you know, the one that existed before Core Campus and Douthit Hills were even thought up?). Well if you don’t know, I highly suggest checking it out because it could be one of Clemson’s best-hidden gems.
Paw Pantry is a student initiative that is completely led by Clemson students with the help of an amazing faculty advisor, and it works to reduce food insecurity on our campus. Any student with a valid CUID can utilize Paw Pantry as it is a no questions asked service that provides struggling students with groceries and other necessities free of charge. This means that no proof of need is required.
Opening its doors in 2015, the Paw Pantry serves the Clemson community by aiding students struggling financially whether that be a long-term or short-term need. It also connects students with various resources on campus such as CAPS, financial aid, Office of Advocacy and Success, etc. With the rising costs of tuition and living expenses, Paw Pantry aims to relieve some of this stress by being a resource for students if their paycheck cannot stretch far enough for food that month or week. They also supply hygiene products, textbooks, and school supplies.
In this holiday season, Paw Pantry is a great resource to remember and to spread the word about. Even if you don’t need to utilize their services now, there are still ways to be involved! Paw Pantry accepts donations during open hours, and larger donations through student clubs can be arranged as well. They also have volunteer spots every semester for students.
The Clemson family is a real thing, and the Paw Pantry demonstrates how much students care for their fellow tigers.
