How to Get Over the Mountain Called Midterms

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

Midterm week is another way to say hell on earth. The late nights and early mornings make you want to drop the class, drop out or just drop dead. While your professor continues to pile on more chapters to read, assignments to complete and exams to study for, you can forget to do the basics. Here are some reminders of things you should be doing in-between your study time.

Meditation and relaxation is essential. Though you need to be alert while studying, make sure you give yourself enough time to focus on the unwinding. If your mind and body aren’t well rested, the material that’s being studied won’t be retained. So, take a nice long shower, pull out a glass of wine and binge watch that show on Netflix you haven’t had a chance to watch in the past month.

Make sure you aren’t skipping any meals. Treating yourself to a nice dinner is not only satisfying, but it will re-boost your brain. I mean, honestly, who can focus on the theory of evolution when your stomach growls are louder than the tutor videos? Eating a balanced meal can help you focus on what you should be doing.

Surrounding yourself with people that have the same goals as you will reassure you that you aren’t alone and they’ll motivate you to bring out the best in yourself. The perfect friend group is what keeps you sane during times like these. Lean on them and they’ll carry you through.

Finally, just breathe and remind yourself that YOU GOT THIS! Don’t doubt your abilities for a second. You got into college because you met the qualifications. Saying this to yourself a couple of times will ease any anxiety you may have.

Hopefully, these reminders will get you through midterm week and beyond. Happy studying!
