Her Campus Clemson got a chance to talk to one of the leading males in Guys and Dolls, Hunter Spangler, who plays Nathan Detroit. Nathan is known as a gambler but is a kind-hearted man as well. Nathan just always has unfortunate luck and seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He always has the pressure on him to find spots for the gambling games and this causes a lot of problems with his fiancée, Miss. Adelaide as well as and the law. Read on to hear more about the play from Hunter himself!

HC: What is the most important thing that viewers should take away from this musical?
Hunter: I think that the most important things that people can take a way from this show is that the themes in the play are still prevalent today. The play premiered in 1950 but I think people can still connect with the show today and enjoy the music and the story.
Â
HC: Are you like the character you play in the musical?
Hunter: In some ways I am. Whenever I’m a character in a show I always try to bring something of myself to the character. The character has a lot of energy and is very comedic which (I hope) are characteristics that I posses normally.
Â
HC: Were there any funny or embarrassing stories that happened on set or in rehearsal?
Hunter:Â Well there’s always mishaps here and there. Sometimes a costume piece will fall off during rehearsal and certain parts of the body will be showing. Sometimes when I’m doing a scene one of the girls will have lipstick all over their teeth. In one scene we have a slide that some of the guys go down and one of the guys accidentally kicked a hole right through the opening of the slide during a performance. Just funny little things.
Â
HC: Why should students come out and see the show?
Hunter:Â Students should come out and see the musical because you first never want to miss a show in the Brooks Center, it’s a wonderful theatre. Second, you never want to miss a Clemson Players show, these are students who put their heart and soul into theatre and really love it and hope to do it professionally in the future. And third, it’s an amazing story and has some great music. The cast, the orchestra, the director, the sound, the stage managers, literally everyone is fantastic and worked so hard. So everyone please come out and see GUYS AND DOLLS!
EVERYONE COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR CLEMSON PLAYERS IN GUYS AND DOLLS!
