Summer 2012 is just around the corner and I thought to myself what a better way to procrastinate on some studying by browsing online for the latest Spring/Summer trends. I flipped through runway highlights from Milan, New York, and London, and came up with a couple of general overarching trends for the summertime.
I noticed a high volume of pastels, peplum, prints, sheer material, and cropped silhouettes this season. Yes, we’ve definitely seen these trends in the past before, but this year’s combination is quite eclectic and unique. How the runway translates and reflects onto mainstream style and trends is constantly evolving. So, I’m going to compare some high fashion motifs with how they might come into fruition this summer.
PASTELS: Especially mint green. Speaking of green, there might be some richer emeralds coming this fall.
Dolce and Gabbana pastel blue dress
3.1 Phillip Lim pastel
Anthropology mint green dress
PEPLUM
Jason Wu peplum dress
Nasty Gal peplum dress
PRINTS: Ever since Dolce & Gabbana sent those beautiful floral dresses down the runaway couple years back, floral prints have been a hit every summer. Ikats and bohemian prints have grown popular as well.
Alexander McQueen print dress
Betsey Johnson print dress
CROPPED
Versace cropped bustier
Urban Outfitters cropped bustier
SHEER
Lanvin sheer dress
ASOS sheer maxi dress
Classics that you can count on: the high-waisted skirt, whether the silhouette is pencil, full, or flowing, a high-waisted skirt is very flattering (I love wearing it with a crop top!). The previous are obviously not all the trends this summer, but just a few I’d like to highlight! So next shopping trip this summer think about how you can incorporate pastels, peplum, prints, or sheer into your wardrobe.
