It’s officially Fall. We’re in the middle of October, and the weather is definitely starting to get colder. It’s sweaters and boots weather, pumpkin patches are popping up everywhere, and it’s Halloween costume planning time. With the cold weather comes (along with all the yummy pumpkin and apple flavors) dry skin, paleness, and darker colors. Here are 10 products to get your beauty routine ready for fall:
1. Oxblood Nail Polish
I recommend Essie’s “Berry Naughty” shade. This is a great nail color for fall, and it has been dominating the fall runways for the past two years. It’s vampy, red wine-y, and sinister looking, and it’s oh so cool. This trend is better done with short nails, as long nails might make you look a little too vampire-like.
2. Bath and Body Works’ Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Hand Lotion
Hands feeling dry? Need a pumpkin pick-me-up while studying for midterms? This hand lotion smells amazing and is super-moisturizing, too. Keep a bottle on your desk and use it when you just need a little study break. Warning: Your roommates and hall mates will want to steal it!
3. Maybelline Baby Lips
I actually tried this for the first time when I got a sample from L’Oreal when they came to campus. This stuff is really great! It’s moisturizing (for those fall chapped lips) and comes in a ton of colors. I got the “Pink Shock” color, which looks way too bright, but it actually goes on as a gorgeous shear wash of matte pink.
4. Smith’s Rosebud Salve
This is my go-to product all year, but it’s especially great in the fall for chapped lips. Seriously, this stuff is a miracle in a little tin. It’s only $6 for a tin that will last years, and it fixes even the driest of lips without being sticky at all. Tons of celebrities swear by it, too, and it’s easy to see why. Crisp fall air is no match for Rosebud Salve.
5. Body Scrubs
Body scrubs are a fall staple. Who wants dry flaky skin? Body scrubs can be inexpensive or more luxurious. They also come in a million yummy scents. Look for more natural ingredients like sugar and olive oil if your skin is sensitive. Simple Sugar Scrubs are made by a company based in Pittsburgh that was on the show Shark Tank, so you can find them at some Giant Eagle locations, and they’re all natural. I love the Pomegranate one!
6. Garnier Anti-Puff Eye Roller
If midterms have left seemingly permanent dark circles under your eyes, this product is awesome. Use it in the morning, and you’ll look like you got hours of sleep, even if you pulled an infamous CMU all-nighter. It feels super refreshing, and it has a cooling roll-on applicator to stimulate circulation under the eye and get rid of those dark circles.
7. Bronzer
Bronzer may seem like an orange glow waiting to happen, but trust me, when your summer tan goes away and you feel like Casper the ghost, there’s nothing like bronzer to add summer glow and make you feel alive again. Just make sure you buy a shad that works well for your skin tone, and don’t go overboard. Bye, bye pale skin!
