This Friday at 12 A.M., Ed Sheeran’s newest album “÷” dropped on Spotify. This is his first album since 2014, so I was pretty hyped for this; I listened to it immediately! We got a small sneak peek into it when “Castle on a Hill” and “Shape of You” were released earlier this year, so needless to say I was eagerly awaiting for the album to be revealed.
The album has a pretty similar style to his previous albums. There are a couple of slow songs about love and sadness (like “Dive” and “Happier”) which remind me of his old songs, but he also has songs that have a newer style. He has some rapping in “Eraser”, some Irish folk mixed with pop in “Galway Girl” and “Nancy Mulligan”, and some faster, upbeat songs like “Barcelona” and “Bibia Be Ye Ye”.
Overall, it’s not groundbreaking, but it does have some variety and it is enjoyable. It’s a short and relatively lighthearted album (save for a song or two), and if you have an hour to spare, I recommend taking some time to listen to it!
