Fitness With Jordyn Greenburg

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CMU chapter.

The winter months can be some of the toughest to find motivation to workout and stay in shape. But, plenty of people have made New Year’s resolutions to try and shape and CMU soccer superstar, Jordyn Greenburg, has shared some of her tips for staying in shape and eating right this winter.

Jordyn is from Arizona, so she definitely understands the difficulty and adjustment of exercising in the cold. But, as an athlete she is “programmed to work out.” She varies her workouts from the elliptical to the treadmill. She also mixes it up by attending the group-X classes the University Center holds. A schedule of classes can be found online and they range from spin classes to kickboxing.

For Jordyn, keeping workouts varied is a crucial part of exercising. Working out can get boring but Jordyn’s strategy of mixing up routines and trying different exercises is a guaranteed way to keep yourself on your toes. Between soccer team workouts and working out on her own, she gets plenty of exercise. She suggests working out different parts of your body to keep yourself in the best shape. For example, instead of running a few miles every day, try lifting weights for some variety. There are plenty of great workout videos for women that include weights, including Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones which targets arms, legs, and abs. If weights are not what you are looking for, try strength exercises such as yoga. These tone your body by working different muscles than cardio does.

As far as eating goes, Jordyn is very healthy but has her cheat days and stress weeks, like we all do. She incorporates plenty of fruits and veggies into her daily diet and fills up on proteins before eating junk foods.

Jordyn also recommends Pinterest as a tool to motivate and inspire workouts and healthy eating. She says,” It’s a great website to find motivational quotes and sayings, along with some awesome workouts which me and my roommate sometimes do in our room to get our blood going if we are going to be up studying late. If you choose three or four of those “mini-workouts” from Pinterest, you can make-up your own workout and burn more!”

As a final goal, Jordyn tries to workout every day. She occasionally takes days off but even getting in thirty minutes of cardio or a ten-minute abs workout makes her day better. She loves getting her body moving, “I feel like once you set a standard for yourself, you always want to meet, or even exceed that standard and prove to yourself you can do it, plus more.”
