Kellie Painter is the co- Campus Correspondent for Her Campus CMU, but her involvement with Her Campus goes beyond the Carnegie Mellon realm. She is also a chapter advisor for Her Campus, and oversees five other chapters, helping them with various issues, and providing advice. Kellie is a senior majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, with two minors in Professional Writing and Business Administration.
“I enjoy working on Her Campus because I’m really passionate about writing,” Kellie said. “I feel proud every time I see someone reading Her Campus or hear someone talking about it.”
Kellie’s proudest moment with Her Campus was being recognized as a Platinum level chapter. “It was like all of my hard work paid off,” she said.
Kellie is originally from Pittsburgh, so coming to CMU wasn’t too far from home. But, she’s made her mark here at CMU. She’s very involved in the Greek community, as an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity, where she serves as treasurer. She is also a member of two Greek honor societies: Order of Omega and Rho Lambda.
Kellie is especially drawn to Her Campus because it provides an outlet for her to express her love for writing, while balancing engineering classes. Her favorite topics are entertainment, beauty, and fashion. It was her involvement with Her Campus that led her to pick a professional writing minor, and has vastly improved her communication skills.
“My biggest goal is to continue to increase our presence on campus and be as relatable as possible to women at CMU. I want to get people talking about Her Campus, ” Kellie said.
Kellie’s favorite thing about Her Campus is getting to work with the amazing writers on the HC CMU team, as well as collaborating with and getting ideas from other chapters.
Beyond Her Campus, Kellie spent the past two summers interning at ATI Flat Rolled Products, an experience that proved valuable in many ways. She applied skills learned in the classroom, and had the opportunity to learn things classes couldn’t offer.
And when Kellie isn’t dedicating her time to Her Campus, the Greek community and classes, you’ll find her watching hockey and obsessing over the Penguins!
