Welcome back to Pittsburgh!
Marina McIntosh
It can be difficult to get out and explore Pittsburgh as CMU students with intense classes and coursework. For those new and old to Pittsburgh this semester, here is a list of “must do” activities for the year ahead in the city. Be warned: some may be cliché and predictable, but they are definitely well worth the time to explore.
Â
1. Get to a Sporting Event
Even if you aren’t a sports fan, Pittsburghers are passionate about their sports teams and games are a great way to take time away from school. Pirate games are pretty cheap and PNC park has a great view of the city skyline at night, plus the CONSOL Energy Center is always an exciting atmosphere for Penguins games.
2. Go up the Incline
For those new to Pittsburgh, you should check out one of the many inclines around the city that provide great views of the skyline, especially at night. The Duquesne Incline is one of the most popular ones.
3. Check out a Museum
Pittsburgh is home to some very cool museums, most of which CMU students can get into for free with their ID. The Carnegie Museum of Art, Mattress Factory, Children’s Museum, and the Andy Warhol Museum are all awesome, just to name a few.
Â
4. Explore the Strip District
For cheap produce and random finds, the Strip district is a great neighborhood in Pittsburgh to check out on a Weekend afternoon.
5. Eat at Pamela’s
For freshman new to campus this year, you should absolutely eat Sunday brunch at Pamela’s. The line will probably be out the door, but the hotcakes are amazing and it is well worth the wait.

Keep in mind this is just a short list of some of the many highlights to check out in Pittsburgh, but it is really important to take some time aside from school to go out and explore the city.Â
