Okay so after a hilarious little discussion with one of the other writers (Sophia), we discovered that a lot of shows deemed for preteens and up were not as PG-13 as we thought. It’s crazy the amount of things we missed watching these shows, completely oblivious to the adult humor in front of our eyes.Â
Â
Victorious
Sophia, the inspiration behind my article, brought up how some of the jokes now seem a little sketchy after getting older and rewatching the show (It’s on Netflix peeps). The joke we discussed was from the episode “Robarazzi.”
Â
-
Whenever Cat is talking about her uncles, she says “Uncle-and-Uncle,” possibly implying that her uncles are homosexuals. (Not a crazy moment, but one that was overlooked by myself).
-
I always thought Cat’s necklace on this episode was a rape alarm (not crazy also but a deep “whoa” moment)
-
Allusions that Beck and Jade are sexually active. Both of them are in Beck’s car late at night and this is said:
Â
Beck: “Come on. Let’s just go, it’ll be fun.”
Jade: “Nooo…”
Beck: “Why not?”
Jade: “Because I didn’t shower this morning, and I had tuna fish for lunch..”
Cat: “It’s the world’s best ball freshener.”
Â
But let’s not forget, Dan Schneider’s is the creator of this show and his adult humor has appeared in other shows he’s created like Zoey 101, and iCarly.
Â
The Fairly Odd Parents
Although I could be mistaken, this one scene in the show made me go “Is-is he talking about masturbation?” The scene was of Timmy grabbing a roll of paper towels and then telling his parents:
Â
“I’m just gonna take these paper towels up to my room alone, so don’t bother me.”
Â
Which really makes you question what he would’ve even needed this for. That Turner kid was always up to something.
Â
 iCarly
The episode where it was extremely hot outside and everyone was sweating bullets, Freddie’s mom insisted that all of the elderly stay in Carly’s and Spencer’s apartment. In response to Spencer’s question on why they were all there, Freddie’s mom says a little rhyme:
Â
“When temperatures get too high, the elderly will start to..”
Â
This is one I actually didn’t miss, but I just wanted to include it because WTF Mrs. Benson? I remember watching this episode and finishing the rhyme, and then I’m like, why would she say that? Also why would she want Spencer to spell out that morbid rhyme? Jesus.
Â
Zoey 101
It’s not really a joke, but this one is more of a, “pay attention closely or you might miss it.” We all know Logan was supposed to be the stereotypical cool kid who wasn’t really interested in curriculum, but more so the female student body. We find out in one episode that Logan is actually pretty smart, but just doesn’t apply himself. Anyways, Logan is wearing a shirt that says:
Â
“I Spent One Night in Paris”
Â
Seemingly harmless right? It would appear so until you actually google the reference… which was to a pornographic film starring Paris Hilton herself. Wow, very subtle easter egg placed right before our eyes because of course no preteen would know what that meant. Hopefully.Â
Â
Honestly, most of the shows here with the exception of one were all written by Dan Schneider, and to know this man and his work is to know that he appears to be very subtle with the content in the shows. There are so many more moments I want to dwell in, but it would all benefit us to binge watch the shows to catch some more. It’s a win-win situation!!!!
