The 2000s were a magical decade full of celebrity scandals, coming-of-age rom coms, lip gloss, and fluffy pens – what better way to soak in the nostalgia than to listen to a playlist of the songs that were a soundtrack to such an iconic era of time?

  • Oops!…I Did it Again – Britney Spears (2000)

There is no denying that Britney Spears is the queen of pop, and it’s also fair to say the 2000s simply would have not been the same without her.

Oops, I did it again to your heart

Got lost in this game, oh baby

Oops, you think that I’m sent from above

I’m not that innocent

  • Crazy In Love – BeyoncĂ©, feat. Jay-Z (2003)

Beyoncé is the celebrity of celebrities and Jay-Z is a wildly successful musician and producer, so of course no playlist would be complete without this royalty couple.

It’s the beat that my heart skips when I’m with you

But I still don’t understand

Just how your love can do what no one else can

  • Hey There Delilah – Plain White T’s (2005)

Cause it is just impossible to hear this song without feeling intense nostalgia…

Hey there, Delilah

What’s it like in New York city?

I’m a thousand miles away

But, girl, tonight you look so pretty

  • Mr. Brightside – The Killers (2004)

This is just one of those songs where you have to scream the lyrics…

I’m coming out of my cage

And I’ve been doing just fine

Gotta gotta be down

Because I want it all

  • Country Grammar (Hot…) – Nelly (2000)

This song was just so catchy…

I’m going down down baby, yo’ street in a Range Rover

  • Genie In a Bottle – Christina Aguilera (1999)

Christina was definitely a vital part of the 2000s and this playlist would be incomplete without her.

I feel like I’ve been locked up tight for a century of lonely nights

Waiting for someone to release me

  • Bye Bye Bye – *NSYNC (2000)

What’s a 2000’s playlist without some boyband heartthrobs in the mix?

Don’t want to be a fool for you

Just another player in your game for two

You may hate me but it ain’t no lie

Baby bye bye bye

  • Everywhere – Michelle Branch (2001)

Can’t you just imagine a 2000’s rom-com plot unfolding as you listen to this?

And when I wake you’re, you’re never there

But when I sleep you’re, you’re everywhere

  • One, Two Step – Ciara, Feat. Missy Elliott (2004)

Listening to this song will have you dancing from wherever you are…

This beat is

Automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh

  • Beautiful Soul – Jesse McCartney (2004)

Doesn’t this just take you back to laying on your bedroom floor, ripping posters out of your J-14 magazine?

I don’t want another pretty face

I don’t want just anyone to hold

I don’t want my love to go to waste

I want you and your beautiful soul

  • Say It Right – Nelly Furtado (2006)

Nelly Furtado gave us some serious hits in this decade…

In the day, in the night

Say it right, say it all

You either got it, or you don’t

  • SOS – Rihanna (2006)

Rihanna succeeds in every field she tries to conquer from makeup to music…

This time, please someone come and rescue me

‘Cause you on my mind, it’s got me losing it

I’m lost, you got me lookin’ for the rest of me

Love is testing me, but still I’m losing it

  • Why Can’t I? – Liz Phair (2003)

This song appears in 13 Going On 30… and ugh doesn’t it just make you want to share Razzles with your best friend who is also actually the love of your life?

Why can’t I breathe

whenever I think about you?

  • Fireflies – Owl City (2009)

I know you remember this one.

You would not believe your eyes

If ten million fireflies

Lit up the world as I fell asleep

  • Toxic – Britney Spears (2003)

Oops, I did it again… I added another Britney song. There is just no way you can make a 2000s playlist with just one Britney song!

It’s getting late to give you up

I took a sip from my devil’s cup

Slowly, it’s taking over me

  • Sk8er Boi – Avril Lavigne (2002)

Avril’s iconic pop-punk anthems were definitely a critical part of the 2000s…

He was a skater boy

She said, “See you later, boy”

  • The Way I Are – Timbaland, Feat. Keri Hilson and D.O.E. (2007)

If only we were in a club right now dancing to this…*sigh*

I ain’t got no money

I ain’t got no car to take you on a date

I can’t even buy you flowers

But together we’d be the perfect soulmates
