With the infamous Hallmark holiday quickly approaching, it’s apparent that there are two types of people when it comes to Valentines Day. The first is the person who loves everything about the holiday and can’t get enough of it. These people are usually in relationships. The other type of person feels that the holiday is overrated and commercialized, and wants to avoid it at all costs. So, how do you find a happy medium between loving and hating this day of the year? We’ve got some tips on making the most out of your Valentines Day, whether you’re single or in a relationship.
1. Cook Dinner. Restaurants on Valentines Day are notorious for being crowded and having over the top decorations. If you’re looking to avoid this type of scene, grab a few friends and make a night out of cooking and eating together. If you’re in a relationship, making dinner together could be a fun activity that’s something different from the average dinner and a movie routine.
2. Get out of town. If you really want to avoid the holiday all together, head out of town with some friends or your significant other. Sugarloaf makes a great weekend getaway or even day trip. If you don’t ski, try Portland or Bar Harbor for a day. Both towns are close to Colby but have cute shops and restaurants and are right on the water.
3. Take advantage of Valentines Day sales. You’ve seen the aisles at the supermarket and CVS stocked full of candy hearts and boxes of chocolates. Even if the sight of all that pink makes you nauseous, no one can deny the appeal of low-priced sweets. Allow yourself a day to indulge and stock up on Hershey’s and M&M’s.
4. Throw a Party. If you want to get together with friends but want to avoid the awkward double date, host a party for both your single friends and those in relationships. If you’re single, this will help you avoid overly happy couples, and allow you to meet new people. Whether it’s big or small, you can never go wrong with a party.
