In honor of the changing seasons, it’s time to vamp up that Spotify playlist. Here are ten new releases that you’ll be queuing again and again.
- “Surprise” – Laveda
-
“Surprise” is a dreamy, pop-rock single by rising band Laveda. It’s the perfect jam to listen to when you’re running late to class. If you like anything from Cannons to My Bloody Valentine, you’ll love these guys.
- “I’m In Love With You” – The 1975
-
The highly-anticipated single by The 1975 does not disappoint. Upbeat and catchy, “I’m In Love With You” is practically made for dancing around your room while you ignore your pile of homework. Check out the music video for an adorable Phoebe Bridgers feature.
- “Tonight (feat. Ezra Koenig)” – Phoenix
-
“Tonight” is a groovy new single from the incredible indie-pop band, Phoenix. Seriously, I cannot plug these guys enough. If you like this song, check out “Lisztomania” and “1901” from their amazing album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.
- “New Gold (feat. Tame Impala and Bootie Brown)” – Gorillaz
-
That’s right, you read that correctly. Tame Impala, Bootie Brown, and Gorillaz: an iconic collaboration that will not disappoint. “New Gold” better be on aux before freezing your ass off in the line outside the Jug. Funky and bass-boosted, this new single is most similar to “Feel Good Inc.”
- “ZIG ZAGGING” – Asha Imuno
-
Rising hip hop/rap artist Asha Imuno’s new single “ZIG ZAGGING” is just as groovy as it is laid-back. “ZIG ZAGGING” is a perfect study song to boost your mood. If you see me dancing to this song in my chair at Case, mind your own business. If you like this song, check out his other single, “PERFECT PACE.”
- “Barely on My Mind” – The Regrettes
-
If you like HAIM or Maggie Rogers, then you need to check out The Regrettes. “Barely on My Mind” is a particularly fun and danceable song from their newest album Further Joy. Plus, they have great album cover designs.
- “Pharmacist” – Alvvays
-
After a five-year hiatus, Alvvays’s new single, “Pharmacist,” is eclectic and dynamic. If you like these guys, be sure to check out Barrie, Tennis, and Men I Trust.
- “Loner” – Day Wave
-
I am convinced Day Wave can’t make a bad song. “Loner” is a breathy, melancholy song that represents the best of bedroom pop.
- “Want Want” – Maggie Rogers
-
Okay, okay. Yes, “Want Want” isn’t exactly a new release. But, if you haven’t heard Maggie Rogers’s album Surrender, I’m here to tell you it’s time. “Want Want” is a bold, exhilarating song that I’ll be scream-singing for the rest of the foreseeable future.
- “End of Beginning” – Djo
-
YOU TAKE THE MAN OUT OF THE CITY NOT THE CITY OUT OF THE MAN! Djo’s new album DECIDE exceeds all expectations. “End of Beginning” is refined and electric. Be sure to check out my other favorite from the album, “Change.”
