5 things to take home for thanksgiving break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

By this point into the semester, we’re all counting down the days until Thanksgiving break. With finals around the corner and assignments piling up, you may lose sight of what to bring back with you. For those of you driving home, here are 5 things you may not remember when packing:

All dirty clothes, towels and sheets

Although this may be obvious, being home is a great time to catch up on laundry and wash your sheets. Laundry is often a hassle in dorms, so I use the breaks as an opportunity to start fresh for when we return to finals.

Clothes you never wear

At this point in the year, we don’t need our sundresses or denim shorts. These items take up extra space, which you’ll soon need for all things fuzzy and puffer. Also consider bringing home any clothes you thought you’d wear, but never actually reached for.  Look around in your closet and decide what you can take home to consolidate space.

Dishes and water bottles

You can only go so long without washing your emotional support water bottle.  Hand-washing them in the dorm sink is better than nothing, but not as effective as a good dishwasher or clean sink in your kitchen.  Also bring any other dishes you may have, such as silverware and mugs.  Trust me, it’s time to clean that cup.

Books

You know the bedside book you’ve been trying to read throughout the semester but can’t bring yourself to voluntarily open after all that school work?  Thanksgiving break is a great time to unwind and catch up on reading.

A cute outfit

Whether it’s a cute outfit for dinner with your family, or a fun night out with your hometown friends, something always pops up over break.  If you’re anything like me, I am constantly in comfy clothes while home – and there’s nothing worse than realizing you brought no cute fits home.  Even if you don’t have anything planned now, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Even though everyone has different plans for break, this is a general guide to think about when you’re throwing things into a bag Friday after class.  Pack all of these items along with your sweats and laptop, and you’re good to go.
