This Sunday, November 6, Colgate’s Make-A-Wish Club will be hosting its annual Walk for Wishes in downtown Hamilton. The event is a 5K in which participants can walk or run. The club’s purpose is to raise awareness of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and raise enough money to make their wishes come true. The charity allows these children to experience a true childhood moment outside of the hospital environments they become accustomed to because of the ill-starred cards they have been dealt.
Colgate’s Make-A-Wish Club is part of the Central New York Chapter, which allows Colgate students to become a part of something bigger than themselves, bigger than the school itself. This event promotes a sense of community, in which everyone in attendance, regardless if they attend Colgate or not, is working together to raise money and awareness for a cause greater than all of us. Registration, for those who have not done so online, begins at 11 A.M. and the race will start at 1 P.M., both at 88 Broad Street.
The event is open to everyone. So come one, come all! People can sign up to be a walker or a runner in the event, and can sign up individually, or create a team. Participants can go to 2016colgatewalkforwishes.kintera.org and follow the quick, easy steps to successfully sign up. We encourage you to challenge each other and compete with one another to see just how much money you can raise to put a smile on a child’s face. Friendly competition is encouraged and will go a long way at the end of the day. If you cannot attend the walk itself for any one reason, and no the “Sunday Scaries” is not a valid here, you can still go online and donate.
So, please sign up and donate. Any dollar amount will add up and make a difference; it’s for the children! And yes, there will be food, drinks, and t-shirts.
