‘A Year in the Life’: A Fan’s Reaction

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Colgate chapter.

You cried. You laughed. You were hurt. And you were overjoyed. And no. We’re not talking about your Thanksgiving holiday spent with the family. We’re referring to the release of four 90-minute episodes on Netflix, chronicling the lives of our famed and fawned over Stars Hollow residents. Yes, the Gilmore Girls reboot left us all a bit in shock and reverence. If you don’t know the current state of your emotional affairs, we’re here to give you a template.  The ten major thoughts we had while watching Lorelai and Rory return to the small screen.

#1  HOW has Matt Czuchry (aka hearthrob Logan) not aged a wink ?!

I mean…swooning.

#2  Where is Sookie St. James? The lovable best friend to Lorelai turned Melissa McCarthy comedic sensation after the series’ untimely end?

Were the rumors true? Was she too big a name for the reboot?

#3  Emily Gilmore has lost it. From winter to fall this woman is crazy – and since WHEN did the Gilmore’s have a house in Nantucket?

#4  Is Rose Abdoo doubling as both Stars Hollow’s local mechanic, Gypsy, and Emily Gimore’s housekeeper, Berta?

Answer: Yes. Reason? You got us.

#5  Was Lorelai and Luke’s secret wedding supposed to be that weird?

Lorelai was wearing a top hat, no?

#6  Seriously, where is Melissa McCarthy?

Ibid.

#7  Who couldn’t have guessed Lorelai wasn’t going on that hippie hike?

That would have taken up precious Stars Hollow time and banter.

#8  Screw you, Christopher.

We knew you were bad news the moment your motorcycle entered the screen in season one. Take that work call, Rory doesn’t need you anyway.

#9  SOOKIE RETURNS and was it just us? Or could you sense a little tension?

#10  Those. Last. Words. Amy Sherman-Palladino, there is a tear-soaked pillow waiting to be wrung out still. We’ve waited ten years for another cliffhanger ?!

Shame on you.
