We’ve all been feeling a lot of feelings so far as seniors. It’s so different being a senior, and none of us can deny the changes. Older students no longer linger above us to offer help, and instead it’s on us to bestow our knowledge to the younger classes. Here’s some thoughts/feelings about senior year so far as told by songs.Â
Â
1. Where Are Ăś Now – Justin Bieber
-
While my motivation has peaked for a bunch of things (sleeping, working out, spending time with friends, going on long walks throughout the city, writing Her Campus articles, trying every salad dressing at Sweetgreen, socializing in Butler), this song acurately represents my motivation for doing the reading for most of my classes: “where [is my motivation] now that I need ya / couldn’t find you anywhere.”
Â
2. Young and Beautiful – Lana Del Ray
- “The crazy days, city lights /Â The way you’d play with me like a child /Â Will you still love me /Â When I’m no longer young and beautiful?” Will anyone like us after we graduate? How will we ever make new friends? (College friends: can everyone please just stay in NYC?)
Â
3. $ave Dat Money – Lil Dicky feat. Fetty
- Lol. Real world? Rent? Expenses? Living off of a paycheck? No “free food” in a dining hall? “Ay, we gon’ save that money (I’m so thrifty) / Ay, we gon’ save that money (I’m so stingy) / Ay, we gon’ save that money / What we do? We gon’ save that money.”
Â
4. Work It – Missy Elliott
- Missy teaches us all to work hard and do our best. Additionally, she knows how importantant it is for “If you a fly gal get your nails done / Get a pedicure, get your hair did.”
Â
5. Gonna Love Ya – Avicii
- “I’m gonna love ya like no one could / make your heart feel the way it should.” As Avicii says, only do things that you love. If I’ve learned one thing in college, it’s to dedicate my time to the most meaningful things that I can, and try to decrease the things that don’t bring me fulfillment.Â
Â
6. No Interruption – Hoodie Allen
- When you’re simply done with BS:Â “I’ll give it to you, no interruption.”
Â
7. Dreams – Life of Dillon
- Follow your dreams and try new things. “I wanna see my name in flashing lights / I want a penthouse a thousand feet in the sky / And girl, I don’t think I’m ready to fall in love / But if your dreams don’t scare you, they ain’t big enough.”
Â
8. The Night is Still Young
- When it’s 9pm and you’re sorta ready for bed, stay up. Call some friends, go out, do something, and just enjoy being in college! If you don’t know what to do, you can always try to just go to EC and walk around until you find a party, or you can make some new freshman friends lingering outside Carman, you can turnup with Lamda on their stoop, or you can chaperone the scene at Mel’s. “I never worry, life is a journey / I just wanna enjoy the ride / What is the hurry? It’s pretty early / It’s okay, we’ll take our time / The night is still young.”
Â
9. Something New – Axwell
- Everything soon will be something new for us. “I see the dawn of a new beginning / This time, this time we can’t go home / I hear the streets of tomorrow calling / I go I go where you go / Cause we belong to something / We belong to something new.”
Â
10. Every song on the High School Musical 3 Soundtrack
- Some of my favorites include Right Here, Right Now, We’re All In This Together (Graduation Mix), and Now or Never (“This is the last chance to make our mark / History will know who we are! / This is the last game so make it count, it’s / now or never.”) But really, I’ll take anything that invovles Troy Bolton.Â
Â
PS! We Are Young – Fun
- Even though we feel old af on campus, we’re really pretty young. We have it all ahead of us.
