Her Campus Barnard wants to give you a front row pass into the music world.
We showed you “Tonight is The Night” by Outtasight in October, Gotye in December…ages before they went mainstream with that strange name and now we’re here to present you with one more big one. Premiering last night on “The Voice,” this new single, “Payphone” from Maroon5’s new album, Overexposed will be huge. Trust me. A collaboration of two of a our biggest song hitmen of our day, Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa, “Payphone” is a fantastically catchy pop song with a rap interlude. Although Adam Levine definitely keeps his music mojo going strong throughout the years, we are always at the edge of our seat to see what Maroon5 comes out with next. Seeing that “Moves Like Jagger” has had it’s shelftime on our iTunes playlist, I believe this song will fill the neccessary void… just in time for summer playlist-making!Â
Packed with a synthy hook, emotional lyrical content and a smooth break from Wiz, “Payphone” has been on repeat all night and morning for me. I cannot get over some of the lines….”Even the sun sets in paradise”–ooooof!– Gets me everytime.Â
My one and only complaint–a payphone? Who uses a payphone these days? Oh, so you mean to say that this song is supposed to evoke a sense of nostalgia? Perhaps a time when the relationship was good? Oh right, didn’t Adam Levine also just record a song about a stereo?Â
Keep on listening!
