Throughout my life, I’ve gone through many periods of growing out my hair and chopping it off, then growing it out again. But sophomore year of high school, when my hair was grown out well past my chest I realized ‘girl you’re not supposed to have long hair.’ I cut it to my collar bone, and I’ve never really went back. And if I do let it grow out a bit I get this persistent urge to chop it right back off, and that I certainly do.
Ever since that crucial year of my teenage years, I’ve experimented with short lengths in the summer, unique cuts, and fun styles that accentuate my curls.

Being a 5’1 woman and having a petite frame, I just don’t like the way long hair looks on me. Shorter hair on the other hand fits my smaller frame, while also framing the shape of my face and adding to my natural curl. It’s a chic little ‘do’ that just suits me.
Every time I need a little oomph, Pinterest is my go-to. I click on the app and am inspired by all the iconic cuts that are available, and I choose which length I’d like to try out next. Going to the salon is one of my favorite pick-me-ups, and sitting in the chair and letting my long-time hairstylist Danielle work her magic, I am truly lifted.
Living in the city and being so busy between work and school, my hair inevitably grows out past what I’d prefer. This past weekend I swung home to the burbs to get my hair back to blonde and while of course getting the ole’ chop and this was the result.

She added some SILVER undertones to the blonde and I was living. I really felt like I was Miss Marilyn Monroe—who am I kidding STILL feel like Monroe—and I wouldn’t shut up about it.
It’s the perfect style to welcome in March and the type of spring and sunshiney vibes we need after a brutal Chicago winter. Having a fun and fresh hairstyle truly make a huge difference in my confidence, while giving my hair the volume and wave it’s meant to have.

So short hair, thank you for always being that pick-me-up when I need it. Truly, you complete me.
