Whether you are looking for a good place to study or somewhere to grab a quick coffee to fuel you before class, the coffee shop is a staple stop for any university student. Next time you are desperate for a coffee fix at the Loyola campus, check out one of these places.
1. MELK bar
5612 Monkland Ave.
Located on Monkland Ave, this café is a little farther than the others on this list, but is well worth the trip. The coffee is superb, the service is great and the seating is great for inspiring productivity. The food options consist of smaller items, like muffins and scones, which are delicious but only work if you are looking for something small. The decor is very hip and modern, with white and blue hues throughout and stylish wood tables. The only issue with this place is that when it gets busy, it’s pretty hard to find a comfortable seat. But no matter how packed it is, you are always guaranteed a great cup of coffee.
2. Café 92
6703 Sherbrooke St. W.
This cozy café is perfect for someone looking for a place to sit down, grab a coffee and a bite to eat. Only a ten-minute walk from Loyola campus, Café 92 has a comfortable atmosphere and ample seating and plenty of couches, armchairs and tables. Their Mexican style menu features a lot of delicious food. I especially recommend their Mexican chicken soup if it’s available. Overall, this café is convenient for the Concordia student who just got out of a lecture and needs a place to hunker down to study.
3. The Hive Café
SP building, Loyola Campus
This spot is well known to any student who frequents Loyola Campus, but don’t dismiss it as simply another part of Concordia. This café has plenty of vegan and vegetarian, locally sourced food options that are easy to grab and go, not to mention delicious fair-trade coffee. Ideal for students who wants to make a quick coffee run before class. It is also great for a student on a budget, since if you are a member, you get a discount. On top of all that, if you are at the café between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. any weekday, The Hive Free Lunch Program operates in the same room as the cafe, and offers students free vegan and gluten-free meals.
4. Mate Latte
5837 Sherbrooke St. W.
With great food and even better coffee, this café is a must stop for any Concordia student looking for a bite to eat and a good place to study. A ten-minute bus ride from the Loyola campus, this homey little café is spacious and comfortable. It is a great option for a student looking to do some studying, or even some reading after a long day of classes. Most of the food is made in shop, and as a result the serving staff have extensive knowledge about the menu. With a warm atmosphere, and great food what else could you want out of a local café.
