As it starts to get dark at 4:30 in the afternoon, we are reminded that our “home away from home” dorm rooms do not have beach house sunroom windows or a complex lighting system. While we love our snuggly escapes, at some point we’ve all struggled with the lack of lights in our dorm room. Here are 7 different ways to both brighten and add more light to your room!

A favorite of many, Christmas lights are sure to both brighten and add more light to your room! They also are quite affordable!
NOTE: Before you go out to the store and buy some, remember that this depends on your school’s dorm policies. Unfortunately, many schools don’t allow Christmas lights because they are a fire hazard.
3. Standing Lamp:
Standing lamps are also pretty cheap and really convenient!
4. Letter Marquee Lights:
Finally your chance to have your name in flashing lights!…well sort of. Not only are these personalized Marquee lights super cute, but also they are actually very powerful lights. They also complement anything that is already on your wall! WIN WIN!
5. Washi Tape:
Goodbye sticky tacks, hello Washi tape! Whoever invented Washi tape was pretty awesome! Not only can you stick photos all over your walls, but also you can get creative with it. It adds to the decor to your room and automatically adds different colors to your wall. The great thing about Washi tape is that you can pretty much do anything with it!
You can even create a head board for your bed!
6. Succulent Plant:
So maybe succulents will not necessarily add light to your room, but they are sure to make your room a little more lively! They are super easy to take care of and super adorable.

The great thing about rugs is that you really can’t go wrong with any. Rugs are something that you can go crazy with! Afraid it doesn’t match your bedspread? It doesn’t have to! Sometimes the more wacky the rug the better!
