We hear that you are involved in Green Dot, could you tell us about your work in this organization?
I became a member of Green Dot during my sophomore year. Most of my work involving Green Dot has been trying to spread its message of bystander intervention. I have been involved in organizing the Green Dot ice hockey game, I spoke at a NESCAC meeting with other student-athletes, and I participated in a webinar last year to discuss the success we have had with the Green Dot game. I also try to encourage peers to go through the Green Dot training, as the skills you learn in the training are applicable to many different situations. The hockey team has embraced Green Dot and we have many team members who are graduates. I was able to put my training to use this August at CountryFest in Foxboro, Mass. It was an unfortunate situation, but it was one of my prouder moments to be able to help a woman in a difficult situation. She was extremely appreciative.
As a senior on the ice hockey team, what can you tell us about your overall experience on the team?
Playing ice hockey here has been one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. Our team has had its ups and downs, but I have learned a lot about what it takes to be a team and how to try and get better everyday. I have enjoyed becoming friends with my teammates and have learned a lot from them.
Could you tell us about your internship at The Hershey Company?
Having an internship with The Hershey Company was a great experience. I worked for the Category Strategy and Insights sector of the company where we used insights and analysis to promote the category of confections. I learned a ton and was exposed to many different aspects of the company. I loved my internship at Hershey!
In terms of obtaining an internship, do you have any advice for our readers?
Apply to as many places you can and reach out to as many people as you can! The worst that can happen is that you get a no. Be aggressive and be confident.
What is your favorite thing about Conn?
My favorite thing is the relationships I have made. I have met some great people and have shared some significant experiences that have meant a lot to me.
What are your plans for after graduation?
After graduation I will be working for The Hershey Company as a sales representative. I am not sure where I will be located, but I am excited to begin my career with a company that is close to my home.
And finally, how do you feel about being nominated as our Campus Celebrity?
I am very excited about the nomination. When I got the nomination I was surprised. I cannot complain about a little face time.
