The holidays are officially here and everyone is in a joyful spirit! Here are some fun activities to do by yourself or with friends and family in New London, CT, or wherever home is!

Attend a light show

Olde Mistick Village in Mystic, CT, will be hosting their 2023 Holiday Lights Spectacular from November 18 to December 23, 2023. They are open until 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. According to their website, “over a half-million lights will decorate the Olde Mystic Village square of shops and restaurants for families and holiday enthusiasts to enjoy!” Better yet, parking is free!

Bake cookies

This is a classic holiday activity and makes the perfect gift too! Get creative with cookie cutters and food coloring to make unique designs on sugar cookies made from scratch, a box mix, or even bought straight from the store!

try ice skating

Many towns have ice rinks or outdoor skating available for public use during the holidays. Connecticut College’s Dayton Arena offers skate rentals and lessons! There’s also the RoseGarden Ice Arena nearby, open all year round!

make a gingerbread house

Constructing and decorating a gingerbread house is harder than it looks! Grab ready-made kits from the store or make your own dough and invite some friends over to host a gingerbread house making contest! Winner gets to eat it all, yum!

check out local theaters

We’re talking about movies and plays! Hartford Stage in Hartford, CT, is bringing back A Christmas Carol from November 24 to December 24, 2023. Performance days and times vary. Also check out new holiday movies coming to theaters or streaming platforms including Candy Cane Lane, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever, and The Perfect Christmas!

Make time for yourself

The holidays can be stressful, so it’s important to practice self-care. Spend time alone, get enough sleep, stay active and strike a balance with friends and family!
