Meet this semester’s Campus Correspondent, Carolyn Cross! Read on to find out what she does on campus and where she’s headed next!
Class Year:Â 2019
Hometown:Â Wilbraham, MA
Major:Â Sociology
Minor:Â Psychology
Certificate program:Â Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts (CISLA)
Extracurricular activities:Â Campus Correspondent for Her Campus, Women’s Club Soccer president, Habitat for Humanity event coordinator, Women’s Empowerment Initiative reading committee member, barista at the Coffee Closets
Favorite place on campus: I am a diva and need it to be almost silent when I do work, so I’m going to go with my room. However, I do have a special place in my heart for the Walk-in. I also enjoy the atmosphere of the small dining halls in JA and Freeman.Â
Favorite drink at the Walk-in: I never drank coffee before working at the Coffee Closets, but I have developed such a love for all the drinks we make. My go-to drink used to be just a regular ol’ iced-coffee with soymilk, but then I added a splash a caramel to that concoction on one serendipitous occasion, and my life hasn’t been the same since.
Do you have a favorite class you’ve taken at Conn? I took an acting class freshman year to fulfill a general education requirement and ended up really liking it. When I was younger, being in front of a crowd to perform was dreadful for me, so this class was a rewarding and fun experience in which I could see how I had grown and what I was capable of. The class also gave me even more of an appreciation for actors because line memorization is quite a feat!
Are you studying abroad, and if so, where? I am going to Valparaiso, Chile in the spring through an SIT program called “Cultural Identity, Social Justice, and Community Development.” I will also be spending the summer there doing an internship, which I am still in the process of securing.  Â
Favorite place near Conn? Harkness Memorial State Park
What do you like to do for fun? I love hiking. It is so appealing to me because you put in all this physical and mental work and then you get to see a view that makes it all worth it. I spent this past summer working in Vermont, so I did a good deal of hiking. I think mountains are so beautiful and majestic. I also like going to live music or art performances, and I like to both play and watch soccer.
Do you have an embarrassing Camel moment? I got locked out of my room freshman year when I was in my towel. I also went outside for a fire drill in my towel. So I guess I just like being in public in my towel…
What is your favorite food? Ahh I like so many foods. Some of my favorites are chocolate chip pancakes, eggplant, mashed sweet potatoes, pesto, and omelettes with cheddar, spinach, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. I also love wraps and paninis. Desert is a given…
What is one thing you have not checked off your Conn bucket list yet? I definitely want to go to the Lyman Allyn and also do that ropes course on the side of the highway in Groton.
