In honor of the autumnal equinox this Friday, marking the official start of fall, here’s a list of things to get you ready for the season. Whether you love autumn or simply tolerate it, it’s always best to be prepared and, of course, have some fun.
Â
1. Fall themed photo time
Yes collegiettes, it is time to practice your photography skills. Leaves are changing, pretty colors are everywhere, and soon people will be sporting cute and cozy outfits. Your phone camera will be your new best friend as you capture the essence of the season. Instagram will thank you for your hard work.
Â
2. Bring out your oranges, reds, yellows, and browns
That’s right! Scarves, cute sweaters, leggings, adorable boots – it’s time. Embrace your inner fashionista and dazzle campus with your cute, fall-themed outfits. Enjoy it now. Come winter and finals season, you’ll be back sporting the old fashioned “sweatpants and no sleep” couture.
Â
3. Pumpkin. Spice. Everything.
Whether you’re a fan or not, the time for pumpkin spice everything is upon us. So whip out your inner suburban white girl, and head to your local Starbucks to get your obligatory Pumpkin Spice Latte.
Â
4. Apple, apples and more apples
Okay, so don’t accept any apples from creepy old ladies promising a better life, but certainly go buy some. Or better yet, go enjoy the old American custom of apple picking. Apple picking, apple pie baking and eating, apple cider, bobbing for apples – these are all pretty standard fall events. Good thing apples are healthy!
Â
5. Bring on that nostalgia
Do you ever notice how during the start of the school year and the emergence of fall, your mind suddenly fills with old memories? According to a news article in the Atlantic, as a society, we start feeling nostalgia during this time of the year, and that feeling is actually a good thing. That means it’s time to scroll back through our Facebook photos and reminisce about the past. Bring tissues just in case.
Â
6. DIY fall decor
Speaking of nostalgia, does anyone miss arts and crafts? Me too. But never fear, for autumn is here, bringing lots of fun DIYs. Or, if you’re like me, you can always just pick up some leaves and sprinkle them around your window in your dorm or house. That’s fall themed, right?
Â
7. It’s spooky time
I know, Halloween is next month, but let’s be real, everyone appreciates this classically autumnal holiday. Pumpkin picking comes right after apple picking, and with that you get to carve and decorate to your heart’s content! After all that, you can cuddle up on your comfy bed or couch and put on those Disney classics like Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. If you want, you can also start early on the candy. I won’t judge.
