To quote Leslie Knope, “Why would anybody eat anything other than breakfast food?”.

Personally, I don’t know why. Omelettes, pancakes, waffles, hashbrowns — nothing sounds better to me. While I’ve been at Cornell, I’ve been searching for the best breakfast spots in Ithaca. So far, these are my favorites:

This is a must-see in Ithaca. With its beautiful location on the water, the Ithaca Farmer’s Market offers a variety of food, drinks, produce, and gifts. Whether you want a croissant  or a breakfast burrito, this is the place to go.

Recommendation: Pad thai

Nestled into the DeWitt mall, Cafe DeWitt may not be the easiest spot to find. Nonetheless, the food is worth it! The atmosphere is fun — the cafe is lined with fish tanks and also open to the mall, making it the perfect place for people watching.

Recommendation: French toast

Waffle Frolic serves — you guessed it — waffles. Leslie Knope would love this place! They have both sweet and savory waffles and a variety of other yummy food. It’s located in the middle of the commons, so you can wander around after you’ve enjoyed your brunch.

Recommendation: Chicken and waffles

This restaurant has a fancier vibe, but its view of the water is unbeatable. They offer delicious lunch options, in addition to their breakfast menu.

Recommendation: Any of the omelettes

Monks is one of my favorite places to go for breakfast in Ithaca. It’s location in the Marriott on the commons may seem odd, but it gives the restaurant a classy exciting atmosphere. The big glass windows provide the perfect backdrop for a warm cup of coffee early in the morning.

Recommendation: Vienna Pancakes

  • Mix

Though its location is a little out of the way, Mix is my friend group’s all-time favorite brunch spot. The menu is expansive — with items ranging from Greek omelettes to hamburgers! Everyone is bound to find something they love.

Recommendation: Cannoli French Toast

Let’s be real — brunch is expensive. Sometimes, it’s better to hit up the reliable and classic RPCC Sunday brunch. If you don’t have a meal plan, you can mooch a guest swipe off your friends.

Recommendation: Dim Sum

So gather up some friends and head out to brunch this weekend. You’re bound to have a great time and great food!
