Here at Cornell, we’re blessed with good dining hall food, but let’s be honest, we all have those moments when we just can’t get ourselves out of our dorm for a meal.
Cooking sounds fun, but without a kitchen with a fully stocked pantry and fridge, challenges are bound to be present. Fortunately, there are a plethora of dorm-friendly recipes for quick and easy meals straight from your hall kitchen or even better, just your microwave!
1. Edible Cookie Dough from What Molly Made
Yes, I know plenty of people buy cookie dough from grocery stores and just eat it straight out of the tub, but it’s pretty much like playing Russian Roulette. Cookie dough is NOT meant for raw consumption, and besides, edible cookie dough is so easy to whip up! This eggless recipe is simple and completely doable in a hall kitchen. I’ve made this recipe twice and have not been disappointed.
2. Microwavable Omelet in a Mug from The Country Cook
You might be thinking, “Eggs?? In a microwave??” Yes, it’s completely possible! Making a quick omelet in the morning is actually quite easy. All you need are a mug, eggs, a fork to whisk with and condiments of your choice! The result: fully cooked, savory eggs in the perfect portion size. Also, this recipe makes for a really fulfilling and healthy midday snack.
3. Healthy 5-Minute Avocado Toast from Gimme Delicious Food
Avocado toast just HAD to be included in this post; it’s healthy and very easy to make in a dorm setting. All you really need is bread, an avocado and something to mash the avocados with. Quick, easy and very instagrammable.
4. Overnight Oats from Wholefully
Overnight oats are perfect for busy mornings, because they can be easily prepared the night before. There are so many variations with this, and you can’t go wrong with whatever you put in your mason jar. Eat it cold, hot, dairy or dairy-free, the choice is yours!
5. The Best No-Bake Cheesecake from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe
This recipe is definitely for the overachievers out there, but it’s soooo worth it (Tried, tested, and heavily approved). This cheesecake is made without even opening an oven. All you have to do is whip up the filling, pat down the crust and refrigerate for a few hours! It takes time to make and some space, but it’s the perfect kind of recipe to make with a bunch of friends (especially if you don’t have an electric mixer)!
Dorm life doesn’t mean you have to be restricted to dining hall food. Happy cooking!
