On Sunday, November 10th, CU Boulder is hosting an advanced screening of A24’s new film, Waves, and I cannot wait. The screening will begin at 7 pm in CHEM 140. Admission is completely free, you just need to RSVP here. The film is set to release November 15th, but we get a free pre-release screening.
A24, the geniuses behind the great films like Moonlight, Lady Bird, Hereditary, and Midsommar, also produced and created Euphoria, the show my friends and I have been basing our outfits on since the summer (Kat is my fashion icon). Basically this means A24 has been behind all of our tears, gasps of suspense, and jump scares for the last few years, and Waves is A24’s newest endeavor to make us feel all the emotions on the planet.
If you haven’t heard the hype around Waves yet, let me fill you in. The R-rated film takes place in South Florida. The description of Waves explains that the film “traces the epic emotional journey of a suburban African- American family- led by a well-intentioned but domineering father- as they navigate love, forgiveness, and coming together in the aftermath of a loss.”
While we’re all just trying to make it through the mind-numbing storm of midterms. Waves might be just what we need to relax in a seat, not think about essays, and follow the deeply emotional story of a family, reminding us not to take these crazy days for granted. Check out the trailer featuring Frank Ocean and get ready for an emotional film.
I look forward to seeing you all there! And if you can’t wait to find out the next private A24 screening on campus, be sure to check out the A24 x CU Boulder Facebook page.
As always,
Louisa
