Here we go again, the holidays are right around the corner. And by holidays, I mean Thanksgiving. Yeah, you heard me: Thanksgiving. It’s still November, check your calendar. Anyways, it’s around the time of crunchy leaves, mashed potatoes, and eating to your heart’s content. You may be able to swindle some hot cocoa or ice skating out of me, but it is most certainly not time for Mariah Carey’s voice to be heard. You heard me right. No Mariah Carey until December 1st. For those who try to argue that this phenomenon is perfectly normal, I’m coming after you and your gingerbread houses.
First of all, what is the obsession with Mariah Carey in particular? Her one song comes on every single year and people react to it with the same surprise and delight as the year prior. I constantly hear the famous “All I Want For Christmas Is You” played earlier and earlier each year.. I understand that this is one of the Christmas anthems, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a new song either.Â
To add onto this Mariah Carey frustration, all the Christmas spirit is already rolling in. I’m all for holiday cheer, but not if it’s before Thanksgiving! Why does everyone literally skip an entire holiday in terms of decoration and celebration? I have seen so many Christmas decorations going up. No joke, one of my roommates has already put up a hot pink Christmas tree in our apartment. I have less complaints due to it being bare of ornaments. Well, at least so far. On top of this, even stores and restaurants have decided to go all out with their Christmas decorations around this time of November. I recently had a late night IHOP visit with some friends, and there was so much up for Christmas! Yet again, society seems to jump straight from Halloween to Christmas and completely skip over the month of November.Â
Speaking of the holidays coming soon, Hanukkah starts November 28th. This particular holiday starts way before Christmas, I’m not seeing anyone bringing out the dreidels nor am I hearing any talk about latkes. Instead of Mariah Carey, I should be listening to Adam Sandler and his Hanukkah music. But that’s a whole other topic for another day.Â
In the end, I’m begging here. Christmas festivities can wait until December 1st. (with the exception of gingerbread cookies. Those are killer). So once again, no Mariah Carey at least until December 1st!
